In the year 2021, Tata’s Nexon EV had generated a total sale of 9,111 units. It held a market share of 62% and finished at the top-selling maximum number of EVs in India in the year 2021. The passenger EV had a penetration of 0.5% as a total of 14,690 units were sold. The Ev industry is growing rapidly with more and more manufacturers and locally sourced products are inviting volume-based customers. But this task is not that easy.
In 2020, Tata Motors was ahead of Mg Motors in the competition while Hyundai and Mahindra are the other participants. Tata’s Nexon EV had emerged as India’s best-selling zero-emission model. It had shown an increase of 260.2% in volume from 2529 units to 9,111 units. Nexon EV has been well received by the customers since its market debut in early 2020. The first model which is based on the Ziptron technology comes with a 30.2 kWh battery pack. It claims to have a driving range of 312 km on a single charge. However, the real-world range is around 200-220 km.

Last year, Tata introduced the updated version of Tigor EV. It is based on the Ziptron tech with an improved range. The E-Sedan had generated a total sales of 2,611 units against 631 units in 2020. The YoY sales increase is 313.7 percent

The MG ZS EV sold 2,798 units against 1,142 units. There is an appreciable YoY growth of 145 percent. The MG ZS EV is priced from Rs. 21.49 lakh and has a claimed range of 419 km.
The Hyundai Kona EV came in the fourth position with 121 units as opposed to 223 units in 2020. But the data shows a YoY negative sales growth of 45.7 percent. While the Mahindra e-Verito finished at the fifth position with sales of 49 units against 249 units. The YoY sales show a slump of 80.3 percent. Hyundai and Kia are expected to launch the Ioniq 5 and EV6 in India in 2022.
