Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are planning to enter the Indian electric car industry, with their first electric vehicle being a midsize SUV. The SUV will use cutting-edge Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries as well as a completely new all-electric design. The ‘Blade’ batteries are manufactured by Chinese EV firm BYD, and the Maruti-Toyota collaboration anticipates that the battery technology would give it an advantage in the price-conscious Indian market. For the time being, it appears that BYD-sourced Blade cells will be incorporated into battery packs at the TDSG joint battery production facility in Gujarat run by Suzuki, Denso, and Toshiba.
