The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is a valued institute in India and is considered one of the best engineering institutes in the NIRF ranking. The IIT Madras is well known for its UG, PG, Doctoral courses in 16 disciplines and courses including science, engineering, humanities, management, B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MS, etc. The institution has announced to launch Masters program in Electric Vehicle Engineering to
- Equip students with skill sets that are required in the field of Electric Vehicles and
- To accelerate research to resolve various problems based on this field.
Since there is an increasing demand for electric vehicles, the course has been launched as an Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) which will increase the students’ engagement with eMobility and will be offered to its third year BTech and Dual Degree Program Students. A press has released that this program will enhance the research capabilities in this field. Students are expected to enroll from January 2022 in this program. The initial intake is expected to be 25 students.

IIT Madras said, “Students graduating from this program will have the necessary skill sets to pursue job opportunities in EV product development, including EV integration, vehicle aggregate engineering, communication and calibration, validation and validation, and product and portfolio planning. ”
Earlier, in 2021, IIT Madras had offered a free online course on ‘Electrical Autos and Renewable Vitality’ which was available for college students and professionals. It was a 12 weeks course and certificates were awarded to the participants.
Prof. T. Asokan, Head, Department of Engineering Design, IIT Madras has revealed saying “While the Department of Engineering Design will anchor the program, it will be delivered as a joint effort from various departments. Over the next few years, we are hoping to have more Programs with different structures in the e-mobility space.” He further stated that this course is scrupulously curated to develop the necessary depth in each of the offered domains starting from the basics of the vehicles leading to the specific Electric Vehicle aggregates including motors and batteries.
Karthick Athmanathan, Professor of Practice at IIT Madras, referred to this event as the“exciting times for the eMobility sector.”
CS Shankar Ram from the Department of Engineering Design, IIT Madras also added, “The students will be undergoing core courses that will build the foundation for EV Engineering. They will, then, pursue electives in the specific area of specialization of their choice. They would also do a Master’s project in this domain as part of their degree requirement.”
