Maharashtra Government Launches the ‘Mumbai EV Cell’

Sri. Aditya Thackeray, Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra, established a special cell in Mumbai on February 23 to push the “transition and adoption” of electric vehicles. The ‘Mumbai EV Cell’ was launched in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and WRI India. Aditya Thackeray announced the launch in a series of tweets. “We are rapidly working towards electrifying the BEST fleet,” Thackeray said on Twitter. Currently, 386 BEST buses are electric, intending to reach 50% by 2023 and 100% by 2027.” Thackeray emphasised the general public’s acceptance of EVs, claiming that Maharashtra has experienced a 157% rise in EV registration since the EV policy was announced (in July 2021).
