Maruti Suzuki is planning to enter the EV segment in the coming years. Industry reports have speculated on the arrival of the EV in the 2024 Delhi Auto Expo. The first Maruti EV will be a mini SUV (codenamed YY8) that is likely to be positioned against the Tata Punch EV. The car will be developed under the Suzuki-Toyota partnership. Which means that the EV will be retailed via both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki’s dealerships across the nation. The car could also be based on Suzuki’s lightweight Heartect platform or Toyota’s low-cost DNGA. The carmakers may source the lithium-ion battery from Toshiba’s Gujarat facility. It’s expected to deliver a range of around 250km – 350km.
