California utility PG&E Corp is teaming up with Ford Motor Co to deliver ‘bidirectional’ charging electric vehicles (EV) to its consumers. “We’re announcing today our relationship with Ford Motor Co to deliver bidirectional charging cars to PG&E customers, specifically the Ford F-150 Lightning,” Patti Poppe said at the CERAWeek conference in Houston. According to PG&E, the pilot program will examine how the Lightning electric pickup truck interacts with the grid to support energy reliability by supplying backup power for customers’ homes in the utility’s service area. Ford CEO Jim Farley termed the agreement a “next step” and also stated that Ford will most likely make the majority of its EVs bidirectional.
