Rivian Automotive cited manufacturing issues, supply difficulties, and “Covid-19 breakouts” as factors affecting the launch, which resulted in a total of 1,015 EVs produced and 920 customer deliveries for the year. Rivian paused manufacturing for about a week to resolve concerns, but is now able to resume production, “towards over 200 delivery-ready units each week.” While Rivi’s volume remains low, it is worth noting that the company is facing the challenging task of producing three vehicles at the same time. As of December 15, 2021, there is a large demand backlog of approximately 71,000 pre-orders for the R1T and R1S. Furthermore, Rivian has a contract with Amazon for 100,000 EDV vehicles, 10,000 of which will be delivered this year.
