Description
The Tesla Model Y attempted to capitalize on the Model 3’s red-hot success, but the all-electric crossover is more fizzle than sizzle. Whereas the Model 3 nails its purpose with dance-like driving and remarkable range, the 2022 Model Y appears like a haphazard attempt to appeal to SUV buyers. Its handling is less engaging than the 3’s, and its cabin, while mostly carried over from the sedan, doesn’t do enough to differentiate itself, exacerbating our critique of both its fit-and-finish and the issues that the all-digital environment generates. It is not without worth, however. When compared to competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach E and the Volkswagen ID.4, its estimated driving range is good, and the Long Range variant claims up to 330 miles per charge. Furthermore, the Tesla has an optional third row of seats, which is still uncommon in the world of EVs and SUVs.

Gas Savings
Electric vehicles are less expensive to fuel than gasoline-powered vehicles

Estimated gas savings over 6 years $7,800
Electric automobiles consume less fuel than gasoline-powered vehicles. The average person drives 10,000 to 15,000 miles each year and spends between $1,700 and $2,500 on gasoline. In comparison, the cost of powering Model Y over the same distance is up to four times lower. That equates to between $7,800 and $11,400 in gasoline savings during the usual six-year car ownership period.
We’ve assumed a comparable gasoline-powered automobile gets 25.0 miles per gallon. Over the following six years, we’ve also projected a national average of $0.14 per kilowatt-hour for domestic electricity (assuming 100% charging) and $4.18 per gallon for gasoline. Tesla efficiency figures are calculated using the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive.
Gasoline comparison vehicles are chosen based on vehicle class, seating size, and standard amenities. Using each vehicle’s combined city/highway MPG and MPGe ratings, we compare efficiency data between our automobiles and a comparable gasoline alternative using the EPA estimated range criteria. The actual range may differ depending on factors such as speed, weather, and elevation change.
Model Y consumption rating = 28.0 kWh/100mi
Comparison car consumption rating = 25.0 mpg
Features
Basic Autopilot
Allows your vehicle to autonomously steer, accelerate, and brake for other vehicles and pedestrians in its lane. Advanced safety and convenience features, as well as driver assistance features like emergency braking, collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, are designed to help you with the most difficult aspects of driving.
Easy Charging
Charge everywhere there is power. The Mobile Connector Bundle with a 110V household outlet can be utilised to top off the most used range for daily driving, or upgrade to a 220V Tesla Wall Connector for the ultimate home charging experience. Model Y can add up to 162 miles of range in just 15 minutes utilising Tesla’s Supercharger network, getting you back on the road faster.
Over-the-Air Updates
With periodic wireless software upgrades, Model Y improves with time, providing you additional features, more entertainment, improved performance and range, increased comfort, and even better safety.

Sentry Mode
When left alone, your Tesla is protected by continuous 360° monitoring. Enabling Sentry Mode initiates a “Standby” state, similar to that of many home alarm systems, and employs the car’s external cameras to identify and protect against any threats.
The all-new Live Camera, which is available with Premium Connectivity, allows you to remotely observe your car’s surroundings when parked, as well as honk, flash, and speak through the car’s speaker. Tesla cannot access Live Camera since it is end-to-end encrypted.
Expansive Storage
The Model Y has 76 cubic feet of cargo space, which is available via both the front trunk and the rear trunk, which opens and closes automatically. Taking advantage of space previously occupied by cumbersome engines, petrol tanks, and gearboxes, the Model Y’s design allows for disproportionately large amounts of storage for a car its size while improving occupant safety through a more spacious, strengthened body and chassis.

Tesla Mobile App
Remotely controls and monitors your Tesla using Phone Key keyless driving, range and charging status, climate control, live GPS location, and other features. You may even schedule servicing and monitor your complete Tesla ecosystem, including Powerwall and Solar Roof power flow.

Review:
Good Things
- More practical than the Model 3
- Interior is a tech-lover’s dream
- Dual-motor powertrain supplies plenty of giddyap
Could be Better
- Handling isn’t as engaging as the Model 3
- Build quality is iffy
- Not everyone will appreciate the all-digital dashboard
Conclusion
If all you want is a Model 3 with a larger trunk, look no further, but we believe there are more intriguing EV SUVs to consider that don’t bear the Tesla name.
