India is witnessing a huge surge in the demand for Electric vehicles and with it lithium-Ion batteries. According to reports, the lithium-ion battery industry in India is valued to be around $300 billion. Traditional battery manufacturers like Exide and Amar Raja have already entered this EV segment through li-ion batteries and diversified their portfolio.
The Indian government has pledged Rs. 18100 Crore for storage space and production of electric vehicle batteries (for electric scooters and Electric cars) to encourage the adoption of EVs in India.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Heavy Electronic Limited BHEL on the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in India.
